Check out Kurt Vile covering Tom Petty’s ‘Learning To Fly’
Kurt Vile has blessed his eager fans with a cover of a Tom Petty classic, performing ‘Learning To Fly’ on US radio.
Just last month, Kurt Vile announced that he was gearing up to release his first new solo album in three years, Bottle It In, this Friday. His first solo album since 2015’s b’lieve I’m goin down…, the new record comes almost one year to the day since his collaborative record with Courtney Barnet, Lotta Sea Lice.
Having already shared the singles ‘Loading Zones’, ‘One Trick Ponies’, and ‘Bassackwards’, Kurt Vile treated his fans with a new cover today, taking on a Tom Petty classic.
Performed for US broadcasters SiriusXM, the track sees Kurt Vile utilising a drum loop and some laidback acoustic playing to deliver a stunning rendition of Tom Petty’s 1991 original track.
Vile’s cover comes just one year on from the passing of Petty, who tragically died of an accidental overdose last October at the age of 66.
While there have been numerous tributes to the iconic rocker in the past year (including from Fleetwood Mac, who now feature Mike Campbell of The Heartbreakers on guitar), this is the latest cover of his work, and undoubtedly one that Petty would also have been quite fond of.
